Report: West Ham change attacking target, make late move for CL striker

West Ham United are interested in completing a late transfer deadline day move for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, according to the Daily Mail.

The Hammers are reliant on Michail Antonio in the final third, with no other recognised number nines for manager David Moyes to call upon.

While Antonio has done a stellar job of leading the line for West Ham in recent years, the ambitious Irons could use another option as the furthest man forward.

Benfica star Nunez is highly rated after his heroics in the Champions League this season and would be an impressive signing for West Ham.

The Daily Mail suggest that the Hammers target has a £45 million price tag on his head and that the London side made an advance for the Uruguay on Sunday.

With Nunez currently in South America on international duty, it would appear that West Ham have their work cut out to get a deal over the line before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Monday evening.

The Hammers are currently fifth in the Premier League table and continue to exceed expectations under Moyes.

However, West Ham have had issues in the striker position over recent years, with the likes of Sebastian Haller, Albian Ajeti and Simone Zaza failing to impress for the London club.
